ANDREA MAKI - IN THE SPIRIT OF ONE

I am all the forces and objects with which I come in contact.  I am the wind and the birds, the trees and the darkness. Live. Fly. Shine. Be. One.

In 2004 Andrea Maki went to Central California to photograph Wild Mustangs for Return To Freedom The American Wild Horse Conservancy. Spirit, the star in most of her photographs is the inspiration for the 2002 Dreamworks film: Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron and symbol of the movement to save the mustang homelands.

In 2002 Andrea Maki was invited to travel to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska with a small group to photograph from her perspective in light of her work.  She says of the life changing experience that Arctic time is of a Universal sense a continuum.  No division, or reference to today, yesterday or tomorrow.  Simply one. In this place no one can escape the magic and awe of the Universe.

Maki believes that nothing can be perceived in a single context or viewing, and so repetitive images play a significant role in her painting.  She works from an instinctual response a position of passion, aesthetics and belief.  Maki has actively exhibited her work since 1991 in museums and galleries across the united states, including The National Museum of Women in The Arts, in Washington DC. Her work is about exploring, and living that thrill of oneness, truly appreciating and respecting that oneness.  "We are here to experience and learn and grow" says Maki.
