Gwen Toomalatai

Gwen's paintings are reminescent of master artists from centuries ago, like Rembrandt and Jan Van Eyck.  Her use of color and transparent oil glazes on wood panels create a timeless classic, with a modern edge.  It is a process of transformation, a method of adding and subtracting color, allowing paint residues to remain and removing paint and marks that interfere. Her use of panels is traced back to the origins of oil painting.  It is light that reflects through pure pigments allowing her paintings to glow and illuminate creating masterpieces that inspire to seek the spritual power of nature.
