Julie Brown Smith’s work is about people and places. What we do in everyday situations, and what goes on around us unnoticed as we go through our lives as observers and as the observed, sometimes aware and often oblivious.  The cities in this series are London and Oxford, England; San Francisco, and New York City, but they could be any cities in the world.  The works are not postcards, but rather a way of looking inside the cities and at the people who inhabit them.   She re-creates the essence of private moments in public spaces that are familiar to us all, capturing them in stark black and white.

Her work, which includes ink on canvas paintings, pencil drawings, and hand-pulled limited edition relief prints, has been exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions, most recently at the Pacific Grove Art Center, Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena, and the Carmel Art Association, of which she has been a member since 1987. She was recently admitted to the prestigious Boston Printmakers Society. Her work has also been featured recently on several television series, including Six Feet Under, Committed, Joey, and Las Vegas. It is included in over two hundred private, public and corporate national and international collections, including that of Eric  Clapton.
